Background

I worked intermittently with The Players Theatre Company of Conroe, TX from 2015 to 2019. This was the fifth show I directed with them. This production overlapped with Magnolia High School’s production of Cats and immediately followed The Players Theatre Company’s production of Beauty and the Beast.

About the Show

Adapted from the novel by Louisa May Alcott, this show is a modern reimagining of 19th century womanhood. The unique score by Tony-winner Jason Howland and Mindi Dickstein shows a timeless mix of influences that remains fresh and modern.

Jo March is the second oldest of the March sisters. She lives with serious older sister Meg, sickly younger sister Beth, and childish younger sister Amy. Under the supervision of their mother, the four sisters grow up, find love, and learn to care for each other.

My Work

In some ways, this was the easiest show I’ve worked on. The cast was incredibly skilled and learned the music quickly. It was a delight to work on this sore with the cast.

Special mention goes to Kelley Harris, who played Meg. I was distracted for much of this show by my concurrent production of Cats, and she lent her expertise to helping the cast develop vocal technique needed for belting the high notes and balancing the harmonies.

Accompaniment for this show was provided by The MT Pit, a Utah-based company.
