Meet Me in St. Louis, December 2015
NOMINATED FOR A MONTIE AWARD: BEST MUSIC DIRECTION
Directed and Choreographed by Carole Lamont
Conducted by Sal Jiminez
On my third day of teaching at Magnolia West High School, I had a casual conversation with our on-staff voice teacher about my passion for working on musicals. It happened that she was friends with Carole, who needed a vocal director for this production.
I had a trip scheduled for the day of auditions, but I was able to arrive for callbacks and help with the rehearsal process.
This was my first opportunity to really take a show from start to finish mostly on my own. Working with Carole and the cast, I taught all of the music and then gave guidance throughout the rehearsal process.
In this show I also learned about MainStage. I needed to change sounds for the keyboard and I reached out to a colleague who is a tech guru. He explained the program, which has since become an integral part of my workflow for musicals.
In an unexpected twist, I had to step into the orchestra as a substitute bass player for the last weekend (on keyboard), as our bass player was unable to complete his contract with us.
