The Music Man, August 2016
Directed by Mary Yost
Choreography by Isabelle Yost
This production was the inaugural production of CCT Houston. As opposed to the youth-only productions of CYT, this production company implements the same Judeo-Christian values and production procedures with a cast of all ages.
Our cast for this show included kids as young as 4 and adults well into their 70s. All members were very hard working, and this was the first show I'd directed where was able to successfully teach four part harmony.
The performances took place in the historic Chrighton Theatre in Conroe, TX. Its early-twentieth-century architecture lent itself well to to the style of the show.
I was particularly proud of the barbershop quartet. All four gentlemen had singing experience, but very little barbershop. These songs are not easy. It was a great compliment to receive a comment from an audience member that they sounded like a group that sang together regularly.
Accompaniments for this show were provided by The MT Pit, a Utah-based company which creates tracks for shows. I look forward to returning to this show with a live orchestra in the future.
