After my acceptance to Shenandoah Conservatory, I reached out to the faculty to find out if I could be involved with their summer program, the Shenandoah Summer Music Theatre.
I was hired as a rehearsal pianist, one of a team of two who were involved the entire show. David Landrum bore the primary responsibility, but there was more than enough work to go around.
I played in rehearsals for all three shows: Ragtime, Young Frankenstein, and The Sound of Music.
I learned a lot from these rehearsals, especially regarding what to expect of professional musicians and what my responsibilities will be as a music director in the future. In addition to sitting in rehearsals, I saw all shows twice, once from the audience and once from the orchestra, where I observed all the conductors.
